Environment Artist
Your role as an Environment Artist will focus on collaborating with both Lead and Principal Environment Artists to build worlds and produce assets for our exciting new project. You will have the opportunity to work with a small team while helping to explore and define a core environment style and ensure that that the quality and care is consistent throughout production. Reporting to the Lead Environment Artist, this role collaborates with disciplines across the entire project through all stages of development.
Core Responsibilities & Objectives
- Work closely with the Art Director, Lead and Principal Artists to create a distinct visual style for environments in our new IP
- Iterate with the Environment Team to turn inspiring concepts into detailed interactive environments
- Create game-ready art assets, ranging from hard surface structures to organic foliage
- Collaborate with designers on how to craft engaging play spaces
- Participate in the continual improvement of art production pipeline and methodology
- Assist with recruiting and mentoring of emerging talent
Core Traits (Skills, Knowledge, Experience)
- Proficiency in 3D modeling and texturing packages
- Deep knowledge of modular environment design and implementation
- Interest in helping manage and mentor small strike teams throughout production
- Passion for exploring stylized textures while being comfortable using PBR workflows
- Experience in crafting mood and atmosphere with lighting and set dressing
- Interest in visual storytelling via detailed and layered world building
- Understanding of technical constraints on art assets such as memory and performance issues
- Curiosity about new ways of seeing and representing established genres
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work with high degree of self-direction
- Ability to iterate and provide mutual feedback asynchronously with other team members
- Strong communication skills. You are a skilled listener and are adept in expressing yourself.
Bonus Traits
- Experience with Substance Painter / Designer or Quixel
- Experience developing with Unreal Engine 4 or 5
- Experience with Blender
